The WalkHub distribution now has a recorder!

If you’ve installed your own WalkHub you’ve been able to use the Walkthrough recorder for a few weeks now. But yesterday after adding a few UX improvements we’ve now also released the Walkthrough recorder on WalkHub.net. With it, it is now extremely easy to create Walkthrough tutorials:

  1. Click a record button in your browser (either on our website, browser plugin or site plugin)
  2. Do the task you want to create a Walkthrough for (so no need to think about how you want to present it)
  3. Review the Walkthrough and optionally add a customised description in the in place editor
  4. And you are ready to share

If you want to try it out, just log in on http://walkhub.net/user and you’ll see a red record button in the top right corner. If you don’t yet have an account, sign up for our newsletter to get a beta invite.

By default you will be recording over our proxy. This is a great way to try out WalkHub:

  • You don’t need to install any plugins on your browser
  • You can record on sites you don’t own (where you can’t install our player)

But it has drawbacks:

  • For security reasons we feel uncomfortable enabling HTTPS sites on our proxy (at least at this point). So if a site redirects you to an HTTPS domain, the recorder won’t work.
  • You can’t record interactions with elements that appear after hovering over an element at this point.
  • WYSIWYG editors are not yet properly supported (e.g. expect issues with elements that have the ContentEditable attribute)

If you want to use WalkHub for production on a site you own, we recommend you integrate the WalkHub JS client into your site (either install our Drupal module or add our JS directly).
