Recently we did our first product sprint at Pronovix: our colleagues were invited to bring ideas for new product development and the ideas most people liked were realized during that weekend.

The idea of Scoreshare came up at the product sprint. The original idea was to help sport-event organizers with an app that displays the scores and creates a report sheet from the game that is ready to be printed and signed. This idea was then developed into the current version of Scoreshare, while some features from the original plan will be developed at a later stage.

The Scoreshare we published is a cross platform mobile app for Android and iOS. It lets you create a live scoreboard on your phone and on the web at the same time. You can keep the scores on your device and your audience can follow the live scores from their browsers. After registration users can create scoreboards instantly. During the game they can share the scores and the link to their game on Facebook and Twitter.

We used the following technology:

  • For the app: Phonegap, jQuery Mobile, html, css3
  • For the site: Drupal with custom push notification module written in GO

We will soon post a more detailed blog entry about the technical background of the development.

The app is free and we have good reasons to keep it that way. As I play volleyball in a local team, I know what a hassle it is to raise money for a sports club, and how hard it can be to prove the value of a sponsorship. Our app can help with this issue because – unlike physical scoreboards – it’s a webpage, where we can easily measure the number of impressions sponsors are getting. Once we get enough teams using the app we could even broker deals with sponsors that want to support small teams.

We are planning to add more features based on the feedback from teams using the app, starting with adding many more sports besides volleyball. We want it to be possible for anyone to become a scorekeeper.

If my post piqued your interest about the app, please visit the Scoreshare website or Facebook page, and try Scoreshare for Android or Scoreshare - Your social scoreboard for iOS!
